Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat

Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat is one of the major Block Panchayats in Kozhikode district. The Block Panchayat comprises eight Grama Panchayats: Kunnamangalam, Chathamangalam, Kuruvattur, Mavoor, Perumanna, Peruvayal, Kodiyathur, and Karassery.

The Block Panchayat functions as a coordinating mechanism between the Grama Panchayats and the District Panchayat. It implements various development programmes in areas such as local development, social welfare, agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

Kunnamangalam Block extends from areas close to Kozhikode city to regions with a predominantly hilly character. As a result, the area has a diverse landscape comprising rural areas near the city, hilly regions, agricultural areas, and residential settlements.

Kunnamangalam Grama Panchayat has an area of 27.23 square kilometres and, according to the 2011 Census, has a population of 53,223.

Public Health

Public health is one of the major areas of intervention of the Block Panchayat. The Cheruvadi Community Health Centre is a government healthcare institution functioning under the Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat. The health centre provides services to people from areas including Kodiyathur, Chathamangalam, and Karassery.

The Cheruppa MCH Unit also functions under the Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat. Through these healthcare facilities, improved healthcare services are provided to the people of Mavoor and Peruvayal Grama Panchayats.

Social Welfare

Various government welfare programmes are implemented at the local level for the benefit of senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, children, and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. These programmes aim to improve social security, inclusion, and the overall quality of life of vulnerable sections of society.

Infrastructure Development

The Block Panchayat gives importance to development activities in areas such as roads, drinking water, public buildings, drainage, sanitation, and other essential infrastructure. These initiatives contribute to improving basic facilities and living conditions across the block.

Waste Management and Environmental Protection

Waste management is one of the important responsibilities of local self-government institutions today. In coordination with the Grama Panchayats, the Block Panchayat undertakes various activities related to sanitation, the functioning of Haritha Karma Sena, waste management, and environmental protection.

Participatory Local Governance

People's participation is one of the key features of Kerala's local self-government system. The Block Panchayat plays an important role in coordinating local development needs emerging from the Grama Panchayats and translating them into coordinated development programmes at the Block level.

Through effective coordination, participatory planning, and implementation of development initiatives, Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat strives to promote inclusive, sustainable, and people-centred development across the region.
